Week one: We looked at various castles and discussed analogous colors for a sky. (Look back at this post: liquid watercolors.
The children loved the process of using vibrant watercolors on watercolor paper. They notice how the colors "bleed" into one another and when dried created swirls and lines in the paper.
Week Two: Students used painted paper to create a symmetrical castles with towers and a main hall.
6 x 9 inch paper folded vertically then cut in half makes the towers. Another 6 x 9 inch paintedpaper for the main hall. I showed students how to make "pumpkin teeth" at the top of the 6 x 9 paper to illustrate the front wall of the castle.

ReplyDeleteSo funny that you and Patty (Deepspace Sparkle) posted similar castle lessons within a couple of hours of each other! Great minds think alike, and we art teachers have parallel brains it seems.
ReplyDeletePhyl, I know! I said the same thing on her facebook page!
ReplyDeleteReally cute and whimsical- love them!
ReplyDeleteI just adore painted paper and the kids have so much fun creating their own. I really like how you have the kids create the paper for this project and the castles turned out great!
