Under the Sea with Picasso and Me- Octopus

Another fun sea creature for our Under the Sea Mural.

Week One Vocabulary: Tint, Shade, Stamping
Students used sponges to paint paper with tints and shades of purple and magenta. Let Dry.

Week Two
Students used tracers to create the tentacles of their Octopus. They then chose from various body poses to trace and create their unique creature. To complete the octopus, students added large construction paper eyes and used dot painters to create suction cups on the arms. Lastly, students used glitter paint to cover their shimmering guys.

Materials:
12 x 18 construction paper
9 x 12 construction paper
scrap black and white construction paper
Purple. magenta, and white tempera paint. Glitter paint, glue, scissors, tracers
Sponges

This was such a fun project. I really enjoyed watching the students create their octopuses and every time another octopus was born, a "high-five" was given! This was a perfect class. The students had as much fun as I did. This is why I love to teach! Each 2nd grade class is creating a different creature from the sea. Other student (5th and 6th) have painted 12- 5 x 3 foot banners to create the under the sea mural.
