Who doesn’t love a sweet grandma with lots of patterns? Babushka is grandmother in Russian. What makes it a babushka? Why it is the scarf around her head. 4th grade students created these precious little characters. They loved adding the design and facial features to them.


We read the book by Patricia Polacco, Babushka Baba Yaga.

Week 1:
This project was created by 3rd students who first used 12 x18 white drawing paper and made short scratch marks with oil pastels
(Colors of the oil pastels were gray, black, white, orange, brown and various tans and neutrals.)

This just springboards off a previous post of the red spotted mushrooms my students created. My teaching partner, who knows my love of this mushrooms, gave me this for Christmas, it is a mushroom smoker from Germany. Third grade students created these beautiful painted paper spotted mushrooms 

inspired by Helene over at Dutch Sisters. 

We viewed various Fairy Tale illustrations and the sweet little red-spotted mushrooms found amongst the grasses and trees in the forest land. Students loved finding them hidden through out the stories.

We used 12 x 18 painted paper, traced our hands on the unpainted side and cut, cut, cut. the hands out. Next we glued the hand down started at the bottom and working up. Lastly, we used the extra scraps cut, curled then glued them down.

Week One: 
2nd grade create large, beautiful, pumpkins with tempera paint on 12 x 18 paper. We focused on brush strokes to create texture on our pumpkins. Then Let Dry.

After looking at Picasso"s Cat and Bird students used pencils to draw out the basic shapes of a cat. Well that is just enough time for the 6th grade students to paint these murals with plants commonly found under the sea. 2nd grade projects were then added to the mural. They are found on almost everything from fabrics to vehicles. We created these using analogous and monochromatic colors. First, students used a larger brush to paint a base layer of paint. 2nd, the students created movement with a small paint brush and small brushstrokes. Just like Van Gogh, students add small lines to their shapes. Lastly, students created more texture on the paintings with a 3rd layer using various oil pastels.
